Local Events

Throughout the year, you can find many local events taking place in Beaufort, Port Royal and the Sea Islands. 5k’s, 10k’s, Marathons, and Triathlons are no strangers to the locals here and participants come from all over to join in the fun. Each race is put on to raise money for a deserving cause and is hosted by a non-profit with support from the city and surrounding areas.

On New Years Day, locals start the year off with the annual Pelican Plunge at Hunting Island Start Park where hundreds gather in costume to enjoy the refreshing (but chilly) waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Before taking the plunge, participants can sip hot drinks by the fire while listening to bands play on steel drums. Proceeds go to the park to take care of beach and trail maintenance as well as the conservation of local wildlife. 

Eleven more races take place during the year, rain or shine, you can find dedicated athletes running for a cause. Just a few of our favorites; Chilly Bean 5K/10K, Women’s Wellness 5K, Run Forrest Run 5k, and the Lowcountry Habitat Turkey Trot 5K.
